SMC Opera Theater—Gail Gordon, Artistic Director—joins the SMC Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of James Martin, to present the West Coast premiere of Tobias Picker’s An American Tragedy. Based on the true story novelized by Theodore Dreiser, the opera tells the tale of Clyde Griffiths, a man who is Everyman, and whose dilemma is at the heart of the American experience. During rehearsal and performance of his opera, Mr. Picker will be Composer-In-Residence, a first at Santa Monica College.
